New Community Health Center

I had the privilege of presenting Berks Community Health Center CEO Mary Kargbo with a senate certificate at the grand opening of their new location.

Last week I attended the grand opening of the newest Berks Community Health Center. They have taken the former Giant Food Store in Reading and have created a center that will offer a multitude of services, including medical, dental, pediatric, podiatry, vision, behavioral health and more.

Some of the funding for the center came from Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is a commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.

I’m so proud that our state recognizes how vital these kinds of projects are to Berks County. This new center is going to help people by providing greatly needed services.

Telephone Town Hall

As your state senator, I feel it is my duty to provide relevant, up-to-date information on issues that are important to you. This is why I’m hosting a Telephone Town Hall on pipeline issues at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20. The call will feature the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and will give you the chance to ask them any questions you have about pipelines.

You can sign up or submit questions for the call at www.senatorschwank.com/telephone-townhall.

Veterans Day

Senator Judy Schwank visits the Lutheran Home

Today I had the honor of presenting certificates to veterans at the Lutheran Home at Topton's Veterans Day Ceremony.

Every year, we honor those who have served in our armed forces by observing Veterans Day.  As Americans, we’re lucky to have courageous men and women who have selflessly fought for our freedom. Those of us who have never served in the military, though, can sometimes lose sight of what kind of a sacrifice our veterans and their loved ones have made.

We owe so much to those who serve and have served in our military. They are selfless, courageous and an essential part of what makes our nation great. In return for what they have given us, we can offer them something very simple, but very significant, our gratitude.

On November 11, please join me in saluting our veterans or current members of the military whose selfless sacrifices ensure the freedoms we enjoy and let us always remember the more than one million men and women who have died in sacrifice for our country.
