Reasonable Gun Control
I think it’s fair to say that most of the country is on edge this week. You know something is wrong when hundreds of people panic and flee after a motorcycle backfires in one of our largest cities.
I’m tired of feeling heartsick. Like so many other people, I’m worn out from wondering when and where the next unspeakable mass killing will occur. As these events happen with increasing frequency, we’ve gone far too long without acting. There are actions we can take now to prevent future violence. And it’s time the state legislature as well as Congress enact legislation that will help control the gun violence problem in Pennsylvania and the nation.
I support legislation on the state and national level that will enact universal gun checks and would enable the appropriate authorities to keep guns out of the hands of those who have a history of hostile and violent behavior, and other troubling factors like substance abuse. I wholeheartedly support PA SB 292, which would enact an assault weapons ban in the Commonwealth and prohibit the sale of gun magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds.
We can make our homes and communities safer but only by acting now. I stand ready to return to our State Capitol and work with my colleagues in the PA State Legislature to pass legislation that will help restore peace in our communities.
