Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., January 19, there were 5,341 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 777,186.
There are 4,582 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 950 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. More data is available here.

Harrisburg, PA – The departments of Human Services (DHS) and Health (DOH) today announced a partnership between the commonwealth and Pennsylvania-based Rite Aid to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to staff and residents of certain long-term care facilities and congregate care settings licensed by DHS. These facilities are prioritized for vaccination in Phase 1A of Pennsylvania’s Interim Vaccination Plan but most are not included in the federal Pharmacy Partnership Program.

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., January 18, that there were 4,045 additional positive cases of COVID-19, in addition to 6,023 new cases reported Sunday, January 17 for a two-day total of 10,068 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 771,845.
There are 4,614 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, near double the peak in the spring. Of that number, 945 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. In the December 2020 report, Pennsylvania Department of Health nursing home surveyors conducted 624 inspections, including 394 complaint investigations, of 400 unique nursing homes. Of these, 249 were COVID-19-specific investigations. One sanction was finalized against a nursing care facility in the last month, which resulted in the issuance of one civil penalty totaling $6,000.
“We continue to investigate all complaints for our nursing homes across the state, especially as these facilities may face further challenges by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “The department is committed to ensuring nursing homes are held accountable in order to best protect and provide the best support for our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians. If you see something at a nursing home that doesn’t seem right, we encourage you to speak up by calling us, emailing us, or submitting the online form.”

Governor Tom Wolf is dedicating $2.2 billion in federal stimulus funds to K-12 school districts and charter schools affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to support food programs, technological improvements and other education services.
“All schools have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and I commend school communities for rising to the challenge to combat the toll it has taken,” said Gov. Wolf. “This extra funding is critical to help schools meet the unique needs of educating students at this time while keeping school buildings safe when students return to the classroom.”

Harrisburg, PA – Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine today announced beginning Wednesday, January 20, regional drive-thru and indoor walk-in testing clinics will be held in Adams, Carbon, McKean, Snyder, and Washington counties. The counties with testing sites will continue to change weekly over the next six weeks so that 61 counties will eventually be covered by dedicated pop-up testing sites over a 12-week period.
“Over the past several weeks, we have seen a rapid increase of positive case counts reaching record-high levels, which gives us significant cause for concern,” Dr. Levine said. “In fact, every county now has a positivity-rate greater than five percent, which is alarming. In addition, 14 counties have percent positivity above 20 percent.”

Governor Tom Wolf today urged the General Assembly to act now to allocate $145 million that is available now to provide much needed support to Pennsylvania businesses that have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 public health crisis.
Governor Wolf, joined by Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa (D-Allegheny) and House Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton (D-Philadelphia/Delaware), noted that it has been three weeks since the governor initiated a transfer of $145 million to be appropriated by the state legislature into grants for businesses. This transfer requires legislative authorization to appropriate the funding to make grants for businesses.

Harrisburg, PA – As part of the Wolf Administration’s effort to rollout the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine, Governor Tom Wolf has approved a temporary waiver allowing pharmacists licensed by the Department of State to order and administer COVID-19 vaccines without a physician’s order when vaccines are available to the public. Adding pharmacists to the health care professionals administering COVID-19 vaccines expands options for Pennsylvanians to be immunized once the vaccine is widely available from the federal government.

Harrisburg, PA – The Department of Agriculture today released data related to COVID-19 restaurant enforcement actions from January 4, 2021 through January 10, 2021. The information is specific to COVID-19 mitigation requirements for restaurants, including masking of employees offering carry-out, delivery and curbside pick-up services.
These numbers include actions taken during routine food safety inspections and inspections prompted by consumer complaints.

Harrisburg, PA – Today, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s (L&I) Bureau of Labor Law Compliance released data related to COVID-19 enforcement actions for Jan. 4 to 8. The information is specific to COVID-19 mitigation efforts related to businesses that are not covered by other state agencies, boards, or bureaus.
To date, the Bureau of Labor Law Compliance has assigned 262 cases to its investigators. Between Jan. 4 and 8, the Department completed 6 investigations that were sent to the Department of Health (DOH).

Harrisburg, PA – The Department of Health today shared its weekly update on Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 case investigation and contact tracing data and encouraged Pennsylvanians to download the COVID Alert PA app, as more than 745,000 have already done to aid in contact tracing efforts. All 67 counties have substantial COVID-19 transmission rates.

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., January 11, that there were 5,338 additional positive cases of COVID-19, in addition to 7,506 new cases reported Sunday, January 10 for a two-day total of 12,844 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 726,154. Case counts today are low as a result of technical maintenance to the data server on Sunday. This technical maintenance did not impact the death reporting system on Sunday or Monday as the death data comes from a different server.

Annville, PA – Pennsylvania’s six veterans homes, operated by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), have begun onsite COVID-19 vaccination clinics for residents and staff. The vaccination clinics, which are administered by CVS/OmniCare as part of the Federal Pharmacy Partnership Program, will continue to be administered through early February to ensure all residents and staff who want the vaccine receive it.
