First Lady Frances Wolf encouraged Pennsylvanians to document their COVID-19 pandemic experience during a virtual conversation with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) and State Library. This was the first conversation in a series titled, The Bigger Picture, an extension of One Lens: Sharing Our Common Views that hones in on the various aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic, connecting this extraordinary moment to the broader community.

Harrisburg, PA – The Department of Health today announced beginning Friday, February 5, regional drive-thru and indoor walk-in COVID-19 testing clinics will be held in Blair, Columbia, Elk/Cameron, Sullivan, and York counties. The counties with testing sites will continue to change weekly over the next four weeks so that 61 counties will eventually be covered by dedicated pop-up testing sites over a 12-week period.

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., February 3, there were 3,128 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 853,616.

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., February 1, there were 2,854 additional positive cases of COVID-19, in addition to 3,985 new cases reported Sunday, January 31 for a two-day total of 6,839 bringing the statewide total to 846,078.
There are 3,370 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 695 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. More data is available here.

Note that case counts today include backlogged antigen testing data from urgent care centers; 4,052 of today’s newly identified cases had their specimens collected over a week ago. Harrisburg, PA – Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary John Wetzel today announced that the DOC will relaunch its COVID-19 dashboard. In March 2020, the department responded quickly to the pandemic and implemented a system for reporting basic data on testing and testing results for all staff and the inmate population. This process was sufficient until the sheer volume of testing and results overwhelmed that approach.

Harrisburg, PA – Today, Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Acting Secretary Jennifer Berrier announced that payments for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program in the new federal CARES Act extension are resuming.
“Since the federal legislation for the new CARES Act extension was unveiled, L&I’s dedicated team has been working tirelessly to update our processing systems,” said Berrier. “We know that more than 400,000 Pennsylvanians and their families are relying on these PUA benefits to get through this terrible pandemic and have worked as quickly as possible to complete the implementation and resume payments.”

Harrisburg, PA – The departments of Human Services (DHS) and Health (DOH) today announced a partnership between the commonwealth and Pennsylvania-based Rite Aid to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to staff and residents of certain long-term care facilities and congregate care settings licensed by DHS. These facilities are prioritized for vaccination in Phase 1A of Pennsylvania’s Interim Vaccination Plan but most are not included in the federal Pharmacy Partnership Program.

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today released the latest revised COVID-19 vaccination plan that includes people who are 65 and older, and those 16-64 with certain underlying medical conditions that make them more vulnerable to the disease.
“Pennsylvania is expanding our vaccination efforts to start including anyone over 65 and people ages 16-64 with serious medical conditions that make them more at risk for severe illness due to COVID-19,” said Cindy Findley, Department of Health’s Deputy Secretary for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, and leader of the state’s Vaccine Task Force.

With the high number of COVID cases across the commonwealth, the Department of State is continuing with compliance enforcement as it relates to the regulated boards and commissions. The information is specific to COVID-19 mitigation requirements for the licensed professions, including social distancing, masking and occupancy limits. These numbers include actions taken during routine inspections and investigations prompted by consumer complaints.
