As COVID-19 vaccines become more available and as counties prepare to open mass vaccination sites, Governor Tom Wolf today reminded the public that public transit, often free or subsidized, is available in every county to ensure that our most vulnerable citizens can get vaccinated.
“Every Pennsylvanian who wants a vaccine will be able to get one. We are working to ensure that the most vulnerable populations have access to the vaccine as soon as possible,” Gov. Wolf said. “As vaccine supply continues to increase, we want to remind the public that free and subsidized transportation options are already available throughout the commonwealth and Pennsylvanians can make use of these programs to access vaccine sites. I want to thank our transit authorities for eliminating barriers for these populations, not just throughout the pandemic, but every day.””

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., March 10, there were 2,594 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 955,730. The state also reached a milestone of more than 1 million Pennsylvanians fully vaccinated.
There are 1,530 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 313 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. More data is available here.

Harrisburg, PA – The Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) is taking action to make it easier for Pennsylvanians with questions or issues to reach the department. Acting Secretary Jennifer Berrier today announced at least 500 new customer service representatives will be added to the unemployment compensation call center and experienced existing staff will transition to resolving claims full time.
“To the individuals on unemployment programs who’ve struggled to reach one of our customer service representatives, we’ve not only heard you – we listened,” said Acting Secretary Berrier. “Adding at least 500 new customer service representatives accomplishes two important goals. It will make it easier for people to reach us via phone and will enable more experienced staff to focus solely on resolving and processing claims.”

Harrisburg, PA – Today, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s (L&I) Bureau of Labor Law Compliance released data related to COVID-19 enforcement actions for March 1 to 5. The information is specific to COVID-19 mitigation efforts related to businesses that are not covered by other state agencies, boards, or bureaus.
To date, L&I’s Bureau of Labor Law Compliance has assigned 427 cases to its investigators. Between March 1 and March 5, the department completed 3 investigations that were sent to the Department of Health (DOH).

Harrisburg, PA – The Department of Health (DOH) today shared its weekly update on Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 case investigation and contact tracing data and encouraged Pennsylvanians to download the COVID Alert PA app, as more than 835,000 have already done, to aid in contact tracing efforts. There are 29 counties, currently, in the substantial level of COVID-19 transmission rate.

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of 12:00 a.m., March 8, there were 1,658 additional positive cases of COVID-19, in addition to 1,518 new cases reported Sunday, March 7, for a two-day total of 3,176 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 950,161.

Governor Tom Wolf today visited the Rite-Aid location in Steelton administering COVID-19 vaccine to Pennsylvanians and providing free drive-thru testing for the virus. Prior to a press conference at the store, he was joined by Department of Human Services (DHS) Secretary Teresa Miller on a tour led by Rite-Aid Executive Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer Jocelyn Konrad.
“Rite-Aid has been a critical partner in Pennsylvania’s testing and vaccination efforts, and it is a privilege to visit the hard-working staff who are doing so much to help protect their neighbors and communities,” Gov. Wolf said. “These folks are the ones working day in and day out to put shots in arms as quickly as possible, so that the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians will be protected from COVID.”

Harrisburg, PA – The departments of Health (DOH) and Education (PDE) joined the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) to provide additional information on the COVID-19 vaccine for Pre-K-12 teachers and other school staff following Governor Tom Wolf and the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force’s associated announcement Wednesday.
“The approval of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine provides a great opportunity to launch this special initiative to vaccinate all teachers, child care workers and school staff without interrupting the flow of vaccine local providers have already administered to more than 1.8 million Pennsylvanians,” said Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam.

As part of the priority to safely and quickly get more students back in the classroom, Governor Tom Wolf and the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force today announced that Pennsylvania will use the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) single-dose COVID-19 vaccine for PreK-12 teachers and other school staff.
The governor was joined by task force members Sen. Art Haywood, from the Senate Democratic Caucus, Rep. Bridget Kosierowski from the House Democratic Caucus, Sen. Ryan Aument from the Senate Republican Caucus, and Rep. Tim O’Neal from the House Republican Caucus.

Harrisburg, PA – The Wolf Administration today announced an extension of the Regional Congregate Care Assistance Teams (RCATs) to support long-term care facilities as they continue to face COVID-19 and the challenges it creates for congregate care settings. The RCATs will continue providing support with testing, staffing assistance, and rapid response in the event of an outbreak at a long-term care facility, which can still be dangerous for staff and residents at these facilities as COVID-19 remains a threat. The support network originally was set to lapse February 28, 2021, but it will now be available through May 2021.

Governor Wolf signed House Bill 326, which permits the Pennsylvania National Guard (PANG), in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, to develop plans for the establishment and operation of regional sites for community distribution and administration of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and supplies, and vaccines for a virus, including COVID-19. The bill also requires a report on the Administration’s plans to incorporate the National Guard into its overall vaccination strategy while taking into account vaccine availability and other vital ongoing missions.
