This past summer, the Pennsylvania General Assembly approved a historic expansion of the Property Tax and Rent Rebate program.
The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 and older, widows and widowers who are 50 and older, and people with disabilities who are 18 and older.
Under the expansion, crucial updates are now in place as the Department of Revenue opened the filing period in January of 2024 to submit applications for property taxes and rent paid in 2023. First, the maximum standard rebate will increase from $650 to $1,000. Meanwhile, the income limits for renters and homeowners will be made equal, both increasing to $45,000 — the first time since 2006 that the income limits have been raised.
To make sure as many people in my district have the information they need and can apply, my office is conducting a Property Tax and Rent Rebate Tour!
