READING, Oct. 23, 2014 – Sen. Judy Schwank, Congressman Jim Gerlach, Alsace Township officials and family and friends will hold a dedication ceremony at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24, at the Alsace Township Building to officially name a stretch of Route 12 in Alsace Township, Berks County, as the “Special Warfare Operator Chief (SEAL) Lance Vaccaro Highway.”
The community’s work and the senator’s legislative efforts brought this tribute. The governor signed House Bill 2072 into law this past June.
SOC Lance M. Vaccaro served as a member of the elite U.S. Navy SEAL Team. He was part of the East Coast-based SEAL Team and earned a multitude of awards and decorations for his service in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kosovo. In March of 2008, he was mortally wounded during a training exercise.
An Alsace Township resident, Vaccaro attended the Oley Valley School District.

HARRISBURG, Oct. 7, 2014 – Sen. Judy Schwank will host her annual “College Financial Aid Awareness Night” from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9, at Muhlenberg High School.
The free event will include presentations by Schwank and financial aid experts from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, or PHEAA, and Reading Area Community College.
“With the cost of postsecondary education continuing to rise, it is vitally important for students and parents to understand the financial aid resources that are available to them,” said Sen. READING, July 16, 2014 – Sen. Judy Schwank, members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, local emergency responders, family, and other public officials will hold a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m., Friday, July 18, to officially name a stretch of Route 662 in Ruscombmanor Township, Berks County, as the “Chief Warrant Officer-2 Jarett M. Yoder Highway.”
The community’s work and the senator’s legislative efforts brought this tribute. The governor signed House Bill 925 into law in November.
Yoder, a 26-year-old graduate of Oley Valley High School, died April 2013 in Afghanistan when his Apache helicopter crashed in Nangarhar Province.
The chief warrant officer was married to Heather Garay-Yoder and was the son of Diane and Gary Yoder.
The stretch of Route 662 to be named the “Chief Warrant Officer-2 Jarett M. Yoder Highway” is in Ruscombmanor Township, between Fleetwood Borough and Oley Township.

READING, May 27, 2014 – Residents of the Muhlenberg Township and Alsace areas of Berks County will have the opportunity at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 29, to share their thoughts and concerns with state Sen. Judy Schwank during her next town hall meeting.
“We are coming down to the wire on Pennsylvania’s new budget so it will be good to hear what residents in the Muhlenberg and Alsace areas are thinking about this annual process,” Schwank said. “We will also talk about other local issues, thoughts and concerns and I am looking forward to that.”
Thursday’s town hall will take place in the Muhlenberg Township Rec Center. These community-wide meetings are an essential part of the senator’s work in the 11th Senatorial District.

HARRISBURG, April 1, 2014 – State Sen. Judy Schwank will meet with constituents at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 3, during a town hall meeting in Wyomissing.
“With only three months remaining before adopting a new state budget, this will be a great time to meet with residents of the Wyomissing area and hear what they have to say about the state of the commonwealth,” Sen. Schwank (D-Berks) said.

Sen. Schwank urges residents to help salute their return
HARRISBURG, March 10, 2014—The U.S. Army 333rdEngineering Company will return home from Afghanistan late Tuesday and conclude a nearly year-long deployment as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, state Sen. Judy Schwank announced today.
The 333rd is expected to touch down in Harrisburg at 3:30 p.m. and arrive back home in Reading between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The unit will be escorted by local police, fire, and motorcycle enthusiasts.
“Family, friends, and local citizens gave the 333rd a fitting send off last year as they lined the sidewalks of Route 724 and Lancaster Avenue (Route 222) in Shillington,” Sen. Schwank said. “It certainly would be fitting and appropriate if area residents again stood along the same route to salute and welcome the company back home.
“I encourage everyone to take a few minutes tomorrow to greet our hometown heroes and let them know how much we appreciate their sacrifice and service,” she said.
Schwank said most of the more than 140 members of the 333rd Engineering Company are from the Reading area.
The 333rd conducts horizontal construction operations that include road work, leveling operations, finish grade for roads and airfields, and surface and drainage maintenance.

READING, Jan. 9, 2014 – Sen. Judy Schwank will join members of the Oley American Legion Post 878 at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, to help make sandwiches as part of the group’s “Sandwiches for the Homeless” program.
The Oley Legion makes sandwiches every month for lunch bags that are delivered to homeless people in the Reading area. Many recipients are veterans. Each lunch bag contains two sandwiches, a cup of soup, a bag of pretzels and an apple.
The program operates with donations and Sen. Schwank will be making a small financial contribution when she helps make the sandwiches Saturday morning. The Oley American Legion Post 878 uses the cash donations, as well as offerings of gift cards and food, to help pay for the program.

READING, April 12, 2013 — The U.S. Army will hold a “farewell ceremony” at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, at Governor Mifflin Intermediate School for the U.S. Army’s 333rd Engineer Company (Horizontal). State Sen. Judy Schwank will attend the tribute.
The 333rd will be heading to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Most of the company’s 140 members live in the Reading area.
The media is encouraged to cover Sunday’s ceremony as well as a farewell ceremony salute at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, along routes 724 and 222. However, the Army is asking that the public only attend the April 16 salute.
The 333rd conducts horizontal construction operations and general engineering operations that include road work, leveling operations, finish grade for roads and airfields, and surface and drainage maintenance.

READING, March 28, 2013 — State Sen. Judy Schwank will hold a town hall meeting at 7 p.m., April 4, for residents of Exeter Township and surrounding communities in the Community Room of the Exeter Community Library, 4569 Prestwick Drive, Exeter.
“This is an opportunity for us to have a conversation about the issues impacting our communities,” said Schwank (D-Berks).
The meeting is part of an ongoing series of town halls the senator hosts in various communities throughout the 11th Senatorial District.
